Describe: B. F. Kitchen is a small neighborhood school nestled in the heart of a supportive school community. We believe that with a health and wellness focus, we are able to approach the needs of the whole child – physical, academic, behavioral and social-emotional. We have formed wonderfully strong community partnerships that have helped us to reach local, state, and national recognition for our healthy school initiatives. We believe that every child can and will learn at the highest levels.
Stellar Points: With our health and wellness focus, we have a continuing partnership with Poudre Health System - Healthy Kids Club. We are a model school for the Coalition for Activity and Nutrition to Defeat Obesity (CanDo) and winner of the National Gold of Distinction Award from the USDA. We are a two-time champion winner of the U.S. Healthier Schools Challenge. Most recently, we were awarded a $250,000 Active Play Areas Grant from the Colorado Health Foundation.
Special Offerings: Health & Wellness Focus; 4th grade swimming lessons; partnership with PVHS - Healthy Kids Club; partnership with CSU on our Parenting Matters initiative

Climate: Our staff prides itself in being community oriented and child centered. We welcome our families and our community to become partners in the education of our youth, providing feedback and input on decisions we make. Our students are leaders in our school, making decisions about learning goals and community service projects. We are a Positive Behavior Support school that focuses on the positive behaviors of our students as a way to foster Respect, Safety, Responsibility, and Excellence.
Parents/Staff: We have extremely supportive and encouraging families and community members who volunteer in our classrooms, computer lab and library, and who serve on our Parent-Teacher, Health & Wellness, and FOCUS committees. We pride ourselves on embracing our entire school community as partners in the education of all students.
Accomplishments: USDA "Gold of Distinction" Award Winner, Champion of Healthier School Challenge, twice from CDE (Colorado Department of Education); multiple Thompson Education Association grants, technology grants, as well as grants from local businesses. We have formed partnerships in education with the district's Nutrition Services to provide healthier meal choices for breakfast and lunch, Poudre Valley Health Systems and Healthy Kids Club who provides learning opportunities within the classroom, and CSU who has provided funding and support for our Parenting Matters initiative.
